On May 11, 2025. An officer from the Boscobel Police Department responded to the report of a hit and run. When the officer arrived, he met with a female party who stated another female (later identified as Chantel) crashed into the front end of her vehicle with a blue SUV before driving away. The victim stated that she was not injured and the officer photographed the damage on her vehicle. The officer then went into a store nearby to see if there was any footage of the accident. The store manager explained that they did not have cameras facing that direction, so law enforcement began searching for the vehicle based on the victim's description. Shortly later, a Grant County Sheriff’s deputy indicated that he may have located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex. When the officer arrived, he observed a blue SUV parked abnormally in a handicap spot with front end damage. Upon further inspection, law enforcement documented that they saw what looked like an open beer can on the floor of the vehicle. A male then exited the apartment complex and told the officers that the owner of the SUV was lying on the floor inside by the front door. Officers immediately approached and asked Chantel if she wanted EMS. Chantel stated that she did not need medical services and was questioned on what happened. She denied drinking and stated that she did not remember crashing into anyone. The officer then explained that he could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her breath and Chantel said, "Just leave me alone." Chantel stated that she got lightheaded and passed out and didn't remember what time she arrived there. Officers then helped Chantel stand up where they observed a clear bag lying next to her that contained open and closed Busch Light cans. Chantel denied field sobriety tests and stated that she wasn't “driving and drinking." Officers then explained that she was under arrest and secured her in handcuffs before securing her in a squad car. A search of her vehicle revealed two opened 16 oz Busch Light cans on the passenger side floor of the vehicle that were approximately half full. Chantel was transported to the hospital for a blood draw before being booked at the Boscobel Police Department. The blood test later revealed that Chantel had a BAC of .299. She was found guilty for Operating w/ PAC (4th), and Hit and Run. Chantel was sentenced to 335 days in jail and was required to pay $5,590 in fines. This video is for educational purposes only.
