Last night, deputies and Air One assisted FWC on a call involving two adults and two children lost on kayaks in the Mosquito Lagoon area. Air One located the kayakers right in the middle of the lagoon, west of Canaveral State Park, and guided FWC’s boat as close as they could get due to low tide. They were unable to reach the kayaks, so the Air One crew (Chief Pilot Greg Brooks and Flight Paramedic Matt Brunelle) made the decision to have Brunelle jump out of the aircraft into the water to assist in pulling them roughly a quarter of a mile to FWC’s boat. From there, they put the two children on the boat and towed Brunelle in one of the kayaks, and the two adult females in their kayak, back to JB’s Fish Camp. No injuries were reported, and all ended well, except for Brunelle capsizing the kayak during his attempt to get in. Still gets a 10/10 for effort. Great job!
