FULL REPORT: On 01/18/2022, at approximately 1625hrs, Fayette County Radio Communications advised Peachtree City officers of a wanted subject, Jordan Johnson, that was attempting to pick up his paycheck. Officers were made aware of Mr. Johnson possibly going to Pit Stop earlier in the day, and due to his warrants for felony fleeing/eluding, officers were going to take pre-cautionary steps when attempting to make contact with him. At 1625hrs, officers, including myself, were en route to Pit Stop. Upon officers’ arrival, Ofc. Freeman, Ofc. Khounlivong, and I all walked around to the back of Pit Stop in order to try and make contact with Mr. Johnson who was allegedly still inside the business. Ofc. Freeman advised that he observed a black male subject matching partially the description given out to law enforcement by radio communications leaving the gas station and seemingly avoiding Ofc. Freeman. I then heard Ofc. Freeman advise me to get back to my patrol vehicle due to the black male subject, who was later confirmed to be Mr. Johnson, attempting to leave the area. I ran back to my patrol vehicle that was located directly behind Pit Stop, and by the time I got into the driver’s seat, Assistant Chief Myers advised to radio communications that Mr. Johnson was failing to stop for law enforcement which then turned into a police pursuit by use of our patrol vehicles and the offender’s vehicle. I activated my lights and sirens and pulled out of the Pit Stop rear parking lot and turned left onto TDK Blvd towards Hwy 74 / Crosstown. By the time I made it to the intersection, Mr. Johnson was approaching the intersection, traveling on Hwy 74 S. I made a right turn onto Hwy 74 S and was about to terminate the pursuit by means of ramming my patrol vehicle into Mr. Johnson’s vehicle, but due to Sgt. Eden and AC Myers being very close to his vehicle, I chose not to and instead drove to the right side of Mr. Johnson’s vehicle. After driving almost parallel to Mr. Johnson’s vehicle while driving South-bound on Hwy 74, I observed Mr. Johnson’s body demeanor to which he clearly knew that officers were chasing him. I pulled my patrol vehicle to the right side of the roadway for a brief moment in order to allow Sgt. Eden, who is PIT certified, get directly behind Mr. Johnson’s vehicle safely. After Sgt. Eden took the primary unit role for the chase, I maintained consent communication with dispatched advising on driving behavior, speeds, and direction of travel. As the chase approached Hwy 74 S / Dividend Dr, Mr. Johnson made an unsafe U-turn and began traveling North-bound on Hwy 74. I advised to radio communications of this action so that other units could prepare for him coming back towards Crosstown Dr. I advised to radio communications of Mr. Johnson exceeding speeds of 90MPH in a posted 55MPH zone and that all units, including the offender, were approaching Hwy 74 / Crosstown. As Mr. Johnson approached the intersection, he was still driving recklessly and got in the far right lane intended for turning right only onto Crosstown Dr. He then turned his vehicle left and went back onto Hwy 74 N after nearly colliding with a passing motorist. Sgt. Eden continued as the primary unit as I got up behind him and offender’s vehicle. Sgt. Eden made an efficient PIT maneuver on Mr. Johnson’s vehicle which caused him to spin out and cross over the center median. Sgt. Eden stopped his patrol truck to the right of Mr. Johnson’s vehicle while I drove my patrol vehicle over the median and drove straight into the passenger-side of his vehicle in order to attempt blocking his vehicle in and causing it to be immobile. Sgt. Eden and I both quickly got out of our patrol vehicles, drew our service weapons, and ordered Mr. Johnson to stop and do not move to which Mr. Johnson put his hands up and quickly got to the ground. Sgt. Eden and I placed hand cuffs on Mr. Johnson with his hands behind his back, checked them for fit, and double-locked them. Mr. Johnson was then placed into the back of a patrol vehicle after being searched incident to arrest to which he had a box cutter knife on his person. I assisted with traffic control while Fayette County Sheriff’s Office worked the accident portion of the chase. Peachtree City Fire and EMS arrived on scene and checked Mr. Johnson, along with officers including myself, for any injuries. After Mr. Johnson’s vehicle was removed from the roadway, I resumed all normal traffic flow and concluded my role in the incident
