On August 23, 2025, Fresno Police officers responded to a domestic violence call after a woman reported being strangled by her husband. When officers arrived, they discovered the suspect had barricaded himself inside the apartment. After attempting to unlock the door with a key provided by the victim, the suspect could be heard relocking it from within. Negotiators and SWAT were called to the scene as the standoff stretched for over 90 minutes. When officers forced entry, the suspect charged at them with two knives — one in each hand — prompting them to retreat and hand control over to SWAT. Hours later, the suspect emerged still armed, ignoring commands and less-lethal options. SWAT officers ultimately opened fire, striking the suspect. He was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
