On July 28, 2024, Monmouth Beach Patrolwomen Beringer observed the driver of a white SUV commit a traffic violation. Officer Beringer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 24-year-old woman. Officer Beringer asked her where she was coming from and she responded "Low Dive", a bar located on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. The woman admitted to consuming one tequila shot about 3 hours prior to the stop. As a result, she was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the end of the tests, she was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence. While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, the woman advised Officer Beringer that she was feeling nauseous. She was removed from the back of the police vehicle and was allowed to vomit (while still handcuffed). The police report indicates she submitted to a breath alcohol test and the result was only 0.068% BAC. She refused to consent to a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.
