On July 3, 2026, deputies responded after a man reportedly left his home by climbing out of a window during what was described as a manic episode. He was later located shirtless near an elementary school but ran off when deputies attempted to check on him. Minutes later, another 911 caller reported seeing him crawling through a backyard and climbing the side of a nearby home. Deputies eventually found him in thick brush along a canal. When they tried speaking with him, he entered the water and continued swimming despite repeated commands to come out. After he appeared exhausted, deputies entered the canal to take him into custody. Investigators say he pushed, pulled, and grabbed at the deputies as they attempted to gain control before he was handcuffed. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor scratches and a possible foot injury before being medically cleared and booked into the county jail. He is charged with two felony counts of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.
