Daniel A. Miller, 64, of Loudonville, Ohio was arrested a second time on September 8, 2026, after Ashland County investigators say a continued review of his dog breeding operation turned up further evidence of animal cruelty -- roughly two weeks after deputies removed more than 70 dogs from the property. THE AUGUST SEIZURE Sheriff's office records show deputies, including Sheriff Kurt Schneider, arrived at Miller's home on Ashland County Road 2575 just after 10 a.m. on August 27, 2026, responding to reported issues at a dog breeding operation. Investigators advised Miller of his Miranda rights and obtained his consent to search the house, then separate consent to search a garage and a cabin on the property. Miller was arrested that day and more than 70 dogs were seized -- a number that overwhelmed the local resources responsible for housing and caring for them. He was released after posting bond. THE NEW CHARGES On September 8, deputies returned and arrested Miller again, booking him on 10 additional counts tied to the same case: Torture, torment, or commit act of cruelty -- R.C. 959.131(D)(1) Deprive companion animal of sustenance -- R.C. 959.131(G)(2) Cruelty to a companion animal, five separate counts -- R.C. 959.131(G)(1) Cruelty to a companion animal -- R.C. 959.131(B) Possessing criminal tools -- R.C. 2923.24(A) Engage in s**ual conduct with an animal -- R.C. 959.21(B) All counts are misdemeanors. Court records list Judge John L. Good on the docket. Sheriff's office logs show the charges were read to Miller on scene before he was transported to the Ashland County Jail and booked. A CASE THAT STRAINED LOCAL RESOURCES Removing more than 70 animals from a single property puts heavy demand on local animal welfare organizations. Housing, feeding, medical care and eventual placement on that scale generally depends on emergency support from shelters, fosters and volunteers for weeks or months after a seizure. How many of the seized dogs remain in shelter or rescue care, and how many have been placed, has not been made clear. WHAT'S NEXT Miller is scheduled to appear in Ashland Municipal Court on October 13, 2026. It is not yet clear whether the new charges will be consolidated with the case arising from the August 27 investigation. All charges are pending. An arrest is not a conviction, and every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
