On the 8th of February 2021, a Sydney real estate agent named Karl Howard was under the influence of alcohol and drugs for a couple days straight, spending up to $24,000 on cocaine, taking 6 grams a day. It was also found that he had 11 substances in his system, testing positive for cannabis, fentanyl, valium and more. Officers found Mr Howard on the street after falling out of a utility vehicle's tray, which Howard was hiding in. Howard hid in the back of a car because of his brutal attack on two women in a home not far from the street he was found on. He used a Samurai sword on the two women slashing and almost killing one of them. The women were known to Mr Howard, being with him for the better part of the bender; he started to threaten them in the hours leading up to the attack. After the attack, Mr Howard fled the home on foot, seen on CCTV hopping into a ute. He fell out of the vehicle to be found by officers trying to communicate with Mr Howard. On bodycam, Mr Howard is erratic, speaking in tongues and mumbling. Officers struggled to keep him down and started calling for medical assistance. As they confirmed that he was having a psychotic episode. In a Sydney court in December 2022, Mr Howard was cleared of attempted murder and was given a lesser charge of serious assault and was granted bail; this was because his defence proved that he was in a brief psychosis due to the drugs. He is set for another court date on the 24th of March, 2023. 0:00 - BWC 1:05 - CCTV
