Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 2:00 AM on May 23, 2024, Sergeant Stephen Panepinto of the Colts Neck Police Department arrived at a crash on southbound Route 34 near Blackbriar Drive. The collision involved a white 2011 Honda Crosstour, which had severe front-end damage and deployed airbags. He spoke with the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Ruby Arena. Ruby said she was driving home from her sister's house in Belmar. She later admitted that she had been drinking at a Belmar bar with her sister. While speaking with Ruby, Sergeant Panepinto noticed signs that she might be impaired. He requested assistance from Patrolman Alexander Perkins. After Patrolman Perkins arrived, Ruby was asked to leave the vehicle and complete field sobriety tests. She began with the Walk and Turn test. Ruby failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step and did not keep her arms at her sides. During the One Leg Stand test, she failed to raise her foot correctly and counted out of sequence. Patrolman Campan administered the final test, the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, or HGN, test. The crash, odor of alcohol, Ruby's admission, and poor performance on the tests led officers to arrest her for driving under the influence. She was handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. Her Honda was impounded for a required 12-hour hold under John's Law. Police transported Ruby to the Colts Neck Police Department for processing. Officers read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, and she agreed to provide breath samples. The Alcotest showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.158%, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After processing was complete, Ruby was released to her father while awaiting court. He signed the Potential Liability Warning form on her behalf.
