On December 10, 2023, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to a hit and run crash, where a vehicle struck a residential fence and drove off. Officer Adler following the trail of radiator coolant, which led him to the suspect's vehicle. Officers made contact with the 19-year-old woman, who repeatedly claimed she only hit a curb. She was arrested for hit and run and while she was in the back of the police vehicle, Sgt. Chavez claims he could smell alcohol on her breath. Once at the police station, a decision was made to request that she submit to standardized field sobriety tests. The woman was then asked to submit to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.12% BAC. After being confined in a holding cell for 10 minutes, the woman had a full-blown anxiety attack and an ambulance was called. She was transported to a local hospital, but was later cleared to be booked into jail. Her 3 charges are discussed at the end of the video. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
