Bodycam and aerial footage shows Sacramento officers responding to a July 14th, 2025 call where a man armed with a sword reported he was “trying to kill” his friend. Officers arrived to find the suspect in mental crisis, refusing to drop the weapon. Despite 30 minutes of negotiation, the man advanced toward officers while swinging the sword. Officers used less lethal options before one officer fired a single shot. The suspect survived and was hospitalized. He faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. This incident is under full departmental, city, and legal investigation.
