On June 25, 2024, Roswell Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a woman beating her dogs. When officers arrived and approached the 53-year-old woman, she was carrying a very large stick that she would not put down. Several officers approached her and were able to subdue her and take the stick away. After refusing medical treatment, she was transported to the Chaves County Detention Center, where she was booked for disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer. Online court records indicate that she was referred for a mental competency evaluation and the criminal prosecution was stopped.
