On February 9, 2025, Las Cruces Police Officers responded to a single vehicle car crash on Highway 70. A 30-year-old woman had crashed her vehicle into a guard rail. The force of the collision caused her tire and rim to detach from the vehicle. The woman admitted to consuming 2 or 3 drinks earlier in the evening. As a result, she was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the end of the tests, she was placed under arrest for Driving While Under the Influence. Her sister showed up at the crash site and the two had a lively verbal exchange. The woman was transported to the police station, where she submitted to an evidential breath test. The result was 0.13% BAC. Later in the morning, she was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
