Franklin Tennessee, Williamson County. Memorial Day weekend, May 28 2023. Downtown courthouse square. Franklin Police officers Dom Buffa and Chloe Clemente, under Sergeant Mullins, confront a citizen lawfully open carrying. They claim loaded long arms are prohibited under Tennessee state law. The citizen delivers a calm law lesson citing three Supreme Court rulings: Heller v DC, McDonald v Chicago, and NYSRPA v Bruen. "Any law repugnant to the Constitution is null and void. Our rights are non-negotiable." No crime. No ID. No arrest. When asked if he was being detained, officers had no answer. This cop watch and First Amendment audit encounter went viral as a bodycam style lesson on police accountability in the USA. The citizen was Shaun Kranish, founder of 2A.org and ICarry.org, a longtime Second Amendment educator from Illinois now in Spring Hill Tennessee, with two decades advancing civilian rights across America, facing multiple arrests and charges often dismissed. Aftermath: November 2024, Kranish was arrested at Radnor Lake State Park in Nashville for openly carrying. He denied wrongdoing. Tennessee lawmakers filed HB2064 in January 2026 to repeal carry restrictions in public parks and civic centers. The bill passed committee but stalled by April 2026. The debate continues.
