On February 12, 2026, police in Darien, Illinois, were dispatched to the local Walmart to investigate a potential shoplifter. The suspect, 44-year-old Uzma Shamsi of Downers Grove, Illinois, identified herself as a graduate of Yale Law School and an aspiring mayoral candidate. She offered everything from a shell game of excuses and receipts to racially-charged insults directed toward Walmart's loss prevention manager in an attempt to prove her innocence, but the officers also learned Uzma had a warrant related to an earlier aggravated DUI arrest.
