Officers from the Bergenfield Police Department arrived at the intersection of South Washington Avenue and West Englewood Avenue at 2146 hours. A dispute had escalated when a 27-year-old male passenger exited a New Jersey Transit bus and violently kicked the entrance doors. The impact shattered both bottom windows, causing one to fall out completely. The transit driver confirmed the damage would cost roughly $1,000 and force the vehicle out of service. Law enforcement quickly apprehended the suspect at the scene. The individual was taken to police headquarters, placed in holding cell number 2, and read Miranda rights in Spanish. After refusing to sign the paperwork, the suspect was issued a complaint warrant and transported to the Bergen County Jail. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
