Law enforcement officers arrived at a retail establishment regarding a suspect detained by loss prevention. Store security reported observing a male individual carrying an empty gift bag as he navigated the shoe and clothing departments. The individual gathered two women's shirts and three pairs of athletic shoes, specifically two orange pairs and one white pair. The suspect then utilized a magnet to actively remove the attached security sensors from the footwear before concealing the items within the gift bag. After passing the final point of purchase without rendering payment, store personnel confronted the suspect outside and escorted him back into the loss prevention office. The individual admitted to taking the footwear but attempted to downplay the severity of the theft. Officers also questioned the suspect regarding additional clothing with retail tags still attached found in a vehicle, which was subsequently held by authorities pending proof of purchase. The suspect was placed under arrest and formally charged These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
