An Akron Police officer on patrol stopped by Greathouse’s residence, aware that Greathouse had multiple felony warrants from the Akron Police Department and a felony warrant for Escape from Adult Parole. While passing by the house, the officer noticed a Nissan Sentra parked in the open garage. He exited his cruiser and approached the driveway to get the vehicle’s license plate. As the officer approached, Jacqueline Semuga opened the trailer door and alerted Greathouse, who was inside an RV camper parked in the driveway, by shouting, “Cops are here.” The officer requested backup and began speaking with Semuga, instructing her to tell Greathouse to exit the RV. He also informed her that Greathouse had arrest warrants. When Semuga refused to follow instructions to walk towards the officer, he escorted her down the driveway for her safety. The officer established a perimeter around the RV and waited for additional units. During this time, Greathouse escaped from the RV through a window and fled on foot, prompting the officer to give chase. Greathouse then returned to the house, got into the driver’s seat of the blue Nissan Sentra with Ohio registration KBE1252, and Semuga voluntarily took the front passenger seat. Greathouse reversed out of the driveway at high speed and continued down Virginia Avenue. Another officer, who had activated overhead lights and sirens at the Virginia Avenue and Eva Avenue intersection, began a vehicle pursuit, with the first officer joining as secondary. Greathouse continued recklessly through residential streets before merging onto I-77N. The pursuit continued northbound on I-77N until it was terminated near the Tallmadge Avenue exit. Throughout the pursuit, Greathouse ignored stop signs and multiple traffic control devices, driving at high speeds and recklessly, creating a significant risk to public safety.
