What allegedly started as the theft of a $3 newspaper quickly escalated into something much more serious. According to the West Palm Beach Police Department report, officers responded to a reported robbery after an employee allegedly recognized a man she said regularly came into the store in the morning and stole newspapers. When the store manager confronted the man and told him to leave, police say the encounter escalated. The manager told officers that the suspect turned around and punched him in the face with a closed fist. As the confrontation continued toward the front of the store, the suspect allegedly grabbed a 12-ounce box of Royal Dansk butter cookies and threw it, striking the manager in the face. Police say the suspect then grabbed a New York Post newspaper valued at approximately $3 before leaving the store. Officers later located the suspect nearby, and the report states that the manager positively identified him during a show-up. Police charged him with robbery, battery causing bodily harm, and petit theft. The report also states that he was trespassing on the property and was transported to jail without incident. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: These are allegations contained in a police report.
