A jeweler from Red Bank, NJ was attacked with pepper spray by a thief, according to local police. Authorities received a panic alarm at 3:12 p.m. on Tuesday from Leonardo Jewelers, located at 35 East Front Street. Moments later, a call came in about a man and woman “in a physical altercation” nearby on Union Street. Turns out, the family-run store had just been targeted in a robbery. Officers were told that a woman, pretending to be a customer, had inquired about a specific watch. While interacting with a store worker, the woman sprayed the employee in the face with pepper spray and escaped with the watch. Police eventually located her “concealed among the reeds by the waterfront” behind the Red Bank Elks Club on West Front Street and arrested her. The woman faced charges of robbery, theft, two counts of aggravated assault, illegal weapon possession, and possession with intent to use unlawfully. She was taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. --------------------------------------------- All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq.
