On August 29th, 2025, a quiet but powerful confrontation unfolded in St. Petersburg, Florida. As FDOT crews arrived to paint over the “Black History Matters” street mural, two pastors — Andrew Oliver and Benedict Atherton-Zeman — chose to take a stand by remaining seated in the roadway, praying silently. Officers issued multiple lawful warnings, explaining the area needed to be cleared due to traffic and authorized work crews. Despite repeated requests, the pastors refused to move. Police eventually stepped in, detaining both men without incident. The arrest quickly went viral, sparking debate online about freedom of expression, public property, and state authority.
