On September 27, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Police Officers Kyle Seper, Bianca Arroyo, and Keven De La Cruz responded to the area of Observer Highway and Monroe Street, on reports of a motor vehicle accident. When they arrived, they learned two cars had been stopped at a red light when another vehicle hit both, injuring one person, and fled the scene. Officers located the other car around the corner on Monroe Street. It was still running and had front-end damage and was leaking fluids. The driver, later identified as a 45-year-old female of Fort Lee, was in the driver's seat. When they approached her, officers observed her eyes to be glassy and could smell the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. She appeared dazed and her mannerisms were consistent with being under the influence. A field sobriety test was conducted, after which she was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. She was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where she was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident with injury, improper backing and turning, failing to display vehicle registration, refusal to provide breath samples, and reckless driving. As per John’s Law she was released into the custody of a responsible party. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
