Officers on scene said Scottsdale officers were serving a warrant at an apartment near 1st Avenue and Roosevelt Street. Officers found a woman and child at the apartment they were searching and were told nobody else was in the home. The suspect allegedly then shot through the wall and struck an officer in the lower abdomen. Scottsdale PD says the officer, Sergeant Scott Galbraith, is doing "extremely well" and is expected to make a full recovery. Galbraith has been with the Scottsdale Police Department for 19 years. Officials say officers returned fire, though it is unknown if the suspect was struck at the time. After the shooting, the suspect is believed to have jumped off the second-story balcony. Phoenix police identified the suspect they believe shot the Scottsdale officer as 37-year-old Kenneth Hearne. Hearne was later shot and killed during an altercation involving Tempe police Saturday. The details of the original warrant being served have not been released. Neighbors who live near the scene are shocked about what has happened. "I was taking out the trash, a few cops in the alley, point their guns straight up," said Angela Gonzalez, who lives nearby. "They told me to get back inside, I was like what’s going on. Peeped back out, kicking down doors." And for some, what happened Friday night is the final straw, and they want to move. "We're definitely not going to stay longer than our lease, but we were considering breaking our lease and just leaving," neighbor Rachel Romaniuk said. "We can pay a certain fee but just weighing the costs and benefits because it’s not worth it. I mean, we love walking around down here but don’t feel as safe anymore."
