Arrested for filming a cop. Bodycam shows another officer saying there was no obstruction. The county paid $80,000. A man pulled over near a traffic stop and started recording, because he wanted to file a complaint about the deputy's driving. He stayed in his van. He never approached the stop. When he asked for a name and badge number and declined to hand over his license, he was handcuffed for obstruction and warned about a Taser. On the same bodycam, another officer on scene tells the arresting deputy he doesn't have obstruction. A sergeant arrives, removes the cuffs, and apologizes on behalf of the sheriff's office. No lawsuit was ever filed — a letter from an attorney was enough. The county paid $80,000. Public records later showed the deputy received a written Letter of Reprimand for a courtesy rule violation. He remained employed. No one in this case was convicted of anything. No criminal charges were filed against the deputy. A settlement is not an admission of liability. Footage: released bodycam.
