Hotel staff contacted deputies after a six-year-old girl came down from an elevator alone and began crying because she could not find her mother. Employees told officers they had attempted to call the girl’s mother several times without getting an answer. Deputies remained with the child, keeping her calm and talking with her about school, pets, family, and her vacation while officers worked to figure out where her mother had gone. The child told officers she was waiting for her mom to return. Deputies continued speaking with hotel staff and trying to contact the woman. Eventually, the mother returned to the hotel. An officer immediately confronted her and told her she was under arrest. Police deliberately moved the woman away from her daughter before placing her in handcuffs so the child would not have to watch. During the conversation that followed, officers confronted the woman about leaving her six-year-old daughter alone in the hotel. She insisted she had never done anything like this before and disputed how long the child had been left without her. The footage does not clearly establish the exact criminal charge or final court outcome, so those details are not being assumed.
