A sharp crash broke the quiet night. He looked in his rearview mirror and saw a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro had struck a planter, a road sign, and a utility pole. Vanaman radioed dispatch, then walked over to speak with the driver, identified as Lindsay. He also saw two other damaged cars near Woodbridge Avenue and South 8th Avenue. As Vanaman spoke with Lindsay, he noticed signs that something was wrong. He then checked on the drivers of a black 2011 Honda Civic and a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The Toyota driver went to the hospital, while the Honda driver reported pain but refused medical care. Investigators determined that Lindsay struck the Honda as it turned left onto South 8th Avenue. The impact pushed the Honda into the Toyota, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The Camaro continued forward and hit several other objects. Patrolman Kevin Garrity arrived at 10:39 p.m. to assist with sobriety testing. He asked Lindsay whether she had been drinking, and she admitted consuming alcohol earlier. Garrity started the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, but Lindsay would not cooperate. He stopped the remaining tests because he believed continuing would be unsafe. Lindsay had crashed her vehicle, and officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol. She admitted drinking and failed the sobriety test. Police arrested her for driving under the influence. After she was taken into custody, her vehicle was impounded under John’s Law. Garrity transported her to the police station. At the station, Officer Suarez searched Lindsay before securing her to a bench. She soon suffered a panic attack, and first responders took her to the hospital. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood draw, and nurses collected her blood there. The sample was entered as evidence. Once the paperwork was finished, Lindsay was released to hospital staff, and the charges were mailed to her. Lindsay faced several serious charges, including driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, drinking in a vehicle, and possessing an open container. She also received citations for failing to keep right, driving an unregistered vehicle, and operating with an expired license. The state charged her with two counts of assault by auto under 2C:12-1C(2), along with one count under 2C:35-10A(1) and another under 2C:35-10.5E(2). Court records also showed a prior DWI in Clark, New Jersey, on January 19, 2018. She was cited that day for leaving an accident scene and allegedly failing to report the crash. Lindsay later pleaded guilty to the drunk-driving charge on September 12, 2018. If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
