34-year-old Dartagnan Darnell Stackhouse led officers on a violent high-speed pursuit that nearly turned deadly. Already wearing an ankle monitor, Stackhouse tried to flee again — this time almost crushing a police officer and launching him over 20 feet onto the pavement. Stackhouse was originally charged with 10 crimes — including assault with intent to murder, delivery of a controlled substance, felony fleeing and eluding, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident with injuries. That’s eight felonies and two misdemeanors in total. Despite a maximum possible sentence of 24 years, Stackhouse accepted a plea deal on February 22, 2022, and was convicted of only three charges: Assault with a dangerous weapon Second-degree fleeing and eluding Assault with intent to do great bodily harm He was sentenced to just 2 years and 6 months in a Michigan state prison and released on December 13, 2024. Records indicate he isn’t even on probation. Since 2013, Stackhouse has been convicted five separate times, yet never served more than three years. Is the system too lenient — or is this just how justice works in Michigan?
