Blum (43-year-old female) Incident Description: Complaint & Police Response: A witness called 911 and reported that a black Jeep (New Jersey registration JHP742) was repeatedly swerving out of its lane and driving into the oncoming lane, posing a risk of an accident. Officer Feinstein observed the vehicle and, after seeing similar erratic driving (failure to stay in the lane, driving over a curb), conducted a traffic stop. Driver’s Condition: Melody’s speech was slow and slurred. There was a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. An open can of High Noon (a type of alcoholic drink) was found behind the driver’s seat. Melody admitted she had “three High Noons” (i.e., she drank alcohol before driving). Sobriety Tests (SFST): HGN Test: Nystagmus (involuntary eye movement) was observed, indicating alcohol impairment. Walk and Turn Test: She was unable to walk properly, couldn’t maintain heel-to-toe steps, and lost balance. One Leg Stand Test: She couldn’t stand on one leg and kept stumbling. Arrest & Further Action: Melody was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Her vehicle was impounded. At the police station, she took a breath test (Alcotest), which confirmed the presence of alcohol.
