A routine patrol in Wheaton Illinois turned into a roadside investigation when an officer stopped a vehicle missing a front license plate as detailed in (FOIA)_WHPC2401145.pdf. Upon approaching the vehicle the officer observed the driver displaying red glassy eyes and smelling of alcohol. The driver admitted to drinking wine earlier in the evening and confessed to not having a valid driver's license. Standardized field sobriety tests were administered but the driver could not complete them as instructed due to significant balance issues. A preliminary breath test indicated a blood alcohol level of .108 leading to an immediate arrest for driving under the influence. The driver was transported for processing and issued several citations before being released. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
