One man is dead after a shooting involving a Union County Sheriff's Deputy Monday night. According to police, the shooting took place around 6:45 p.m. on Meadowlark Lane. Marysville Police said the dispatch center received a 911 call about reports of a man pointing a gun at people and saying that he was going to die. Another caller stated the man appeared to be drunk and that he pulled a gun on the caller. The caller told police that the man was in a white pickup truck with a gun. According to police, the first Union County deputy to arrive alerted dispatchers he had the man at gunpoint. A short time later shots had been fired. Police are investigating after it appears the deputy shot the man. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is in charge of looking into his death. The Union County Sheriff's Office said the deputy has been employed with the sheriff's office since February 2017 and has been placed on paid administrative leave per the office's policy. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is looking into what is being described as a deputy-involved shooting. Marysville Police will investigate the rest of the incident. BCI provided the following statement: "The Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation was requested by the Marysville PD last evening to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting involving the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at 1551 Meadowlark Lane, Marysville. The decedent was identified as Matthew Todhunter, of Raymond, DOB: 7/16/1988. BCI’s investigation remains active and ongoing. On average, an officer-involved shooting investigation requires approximately 400 hours to complete. Once completed, BCI’s investigation will be referred to the county prosecuting attorney."
