On December 17, 2023, officers responded to a Georgia hotel after a woman's attempts to call 911 were cut off. In the lobby, she told them her husband — an off-duty sheriff's deputy from another county — had been drinking, accused her of cheating, pushed her against a wall, and kept taking her phone so she couldn't call for help. What began as a couple's night out quickly escalated into a fellow officer being placed in handcuffs by the police who answered the call. He was charged with simple battery under the Family Violence Act and obstructing a person from making an emergency call, and was booked into the county jail. Local news later reported that he was fired from the sheriff's office after eight years. No court outcome had been made public at the time of publishing. 📌 What do you think? Did these officers treat one of their own exactly the way they'd treat anyone else — or should an officer accused of domestic violence face an even higher standard?
