On October 26, 2024, Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Angle responded to a single car motor vehicle accident. By the time he arrived, Fire Department personnel had been on scene for quite some time. One of the fire fighters advised Trooper Angle that when they arrived, a male subject was on scene claiming to be the driver of the crashed vehicle. A short time later, another vehicle arrived that was occupied by three women. The fire fighter indicated to Trooper Angle that something was suspicious about their story of what happened. Trooper Angle quickly determined that the man claiming to be the driver was not actually driving the vehicle. It turns out he is the father of the 19-year-old woman who eventually admitted to driving the vehicle that crashed. She was driving on a suspended license. She also admitted to consuming alcohol, so she was asked to submit to standardized field sobriety testing. At the conclusion of the testing, she was placed under arrest. While waiting for a tow truck to arrive, Trooper Angle allowed the woman to smoke cigarettes and urinate in the woods. She was eventually transported to the Highway Patrol Post, but too much had elapsed to require her to submit to a breath test. She was charged with (1) Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI); (2) Failure to Control; and (3) Driving with a Suspended License. On December 20, 2024, she pleaded guilty to the OVI and Failure to Control charge. The Driving on a Suspended License charge was dismissed. She was fined $425, ordered to attend a 3-day Driver's Intervention Program, and her license was suspended for 1 year. In addition, she was placed on probation for 2 years.
