Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: Late on December 3, 2023, around 12:55 AM, Waukegan PD Officer Jonathan Haske spotted a white Infiniti racing south on Genesee Road near Lake Street. No headlights lit the way. The driver swung west onto Lake Street. Commander Oliver flipped on his emergency lights for a stop. Officer Haske approached the passenger. Commander Oliver reached the driver, identified as Vanessa. She said she came from Ibiza in Waukegan. Haske asked her to step out. While talking, he saw clear signs of impairment. Vanessa owned up to drinking alcohol that night. He requested field sobriety tests. She refused the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and all others. Haske cuffed her then. He told her she faced a DUI arrest. Officer McElroy showed up to drive her to the station. Vanessa paused but climbed in the squad car. McElroy took her there. Haske followed and gave her another shot at the tests. She said yes this time. He began with the HGN test. He noted no smooth pursuit. Nystagmus jerked at max deviation and started before 45 degrees. Vertical nystagmus appeared too. Next came Walk and Turn. She skipped it. One Leg Stand? No go. She tried the Modified Romberg Balance test. At 2:45 AM, they read her the Warning to Motorist form. She agreed to breath tests. Results hit 0.146% BAC, well over 0.08%. They cut her loose from the station for court. Haske drove her home. She got tickets for DUI (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), BAC over 0.08 (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1)), no headlamps (625 ILCS 5/12-201(d)), and open alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-502(a)). Court files show another DUI arrest by Lake County Sheriff's Office in Waukegan on June 22, 2024. She also faced a suspended license charge in Lake Forest on May 16, 2024.
