The Sparks Police Department on Wednesday released body camera video of a man killed Feb. 23 in an officer-involved shooting in south Reno. Police video shows a Sparks man suspected of firearms violations, who was also being sought for questioning in a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigation, running from police who tried to detain him and who had a gun when a police dog caught him. The officers were working as part of the Regional Crime Suppression Unit when they tried to detain Jacori Shaw, 23, in a residential parking lot in the 5900 block of Talbot Lane. Shaw was suspected of illegally having a gun, illegally carrying a concealed weapon, illegally firing a gun, and pulling a gun in a downtown Reno casino. Footage shows Shaw running as police approached him. An officer released a police dog that stopped him. Police then told Shaw to drop his gun, then a shot rang out. Shaw was on the ground. As officers secured him, one officer asked,” Is everybody all right?” Then, referring to Shaw, “Is he hit?” “I think he’s code,” another officer replies. Code 50 is the term for when someone is dead. An officer observes that Shaw is bleeding out of his mouth. Police then cut him out of his clothing and tried life-saving measures while waiting for an ambulance. Shaw was declared dead at the hospital. Police found he had a 9mm black handgun with an extended magazine.
