The shooting happened on St. Croix Lane, which is in the Raintree neighborhood west of Providence Road. CMPD officers went to a home at about 5:30 p.m. in the 8900 block of St. Croix Lane to serve an involuntary commitment order, the department stated. A man answered the door and Brenda Donahue, 60, started shooting at three officers, CMPD said. One of the officers was struck in the chest but her protective gear stopped the bullet. The vest saved the officer’s life and she will be OK. Officer Brandon Graham returned fire, hitting Donahue, CMPD said. Officers rendered aid before Donahue was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Graham was placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy in an officer-involved shooting. “(This is) just a prime example of how dangerous these situations can get,” CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings said the day of the shooting. “How quickly they can escalate. And also a prime example of how important it is that our officers are wearing the protective equipment that they’re assigned.” Internal Affairs and the SBI are investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure.
