Body-worn camera footage from the Broward Sheriff's Office. On January 13, 2025, Broward Sheriff's deputies responded to a shoplifting call at a store on West Commercial Boulevard in Tamarac, Florida. A man fled on foot across State Road 7 and was taken into custody nearby. Deputies recovered his backpack, which held eight packs of socks totaling $36.92. In March 2025, he pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 270 days in jail with credit for time served; in May 2025, he was released on furlough to electronically monitored house arrest.
