Eustis, Florida — August 1, 2026, around 2:50 a.m. Officers stop a car that's smoking heavily and reeks of burnt brakes. The driver says it's an oil leak and refuses to shut it off, claiming it won't start again. After three requests, officers tell him to step out. He keeps asking why. Then he puts it in drive. Officer Murray lunges to shift the car into park and gets grabbed and pinned against the steering wheel as the driver floors it — an estimated 8,000 RPM — and accelerates north with her half inside the vehicle. She's carried roughly 330 feet at speeds around 35 mph before she comes free and hits the pavement. Officer Coe, on the driver's side, is dragged 10–15 feet before letting go and rolling across the road. Murray was hospitalized with a concussion, blunt force trauma, and severe road rash. Coe's injuries were described as superficial. Both were expected to recover. The driver, identified by police as Shakoi Troy Donovan, 28, fled the scene. Eustis PD posted a wanted flyer that afternoon and he turned himself in later the same day. He was booked into the Lake County Jail with no bond on charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing to elude, and resisting an officer with and without violence. All charges are accusations. Everyone is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Footage: Eustis Police Department body-worn camera, released via public records request. Edited for length; some audio is unclear and captions may contain errors.
