During the stop, a passenger—later identified as 47-year-old Guy House of Lexington—unexpectedly pulled a firearm and shot the trooper in the leg. The trooper was later identified as Trooper Jude Remilien, a three-year veteran of the agency. House fled on foot, leaving behind the vehicle’s driver, who remained at the scene and was not charged in connection with the shooting. Several bystanders immediately rushed to help the injured trooper, using belts as improvised tourniquets, providing water, and applying pressure to the wound. A Blue Grass Airport Police officer soon arrived and secured a proper tourniquet before paramedics took over care. While escaping, House carjacked another vehicle and continued into Fayette County. Police launched a large-scale search and located the stolen vehicle near Richmond Road Baptist Church on Old Richmond Road. Around 12:30 p.m., Lexington Police found House in the church parking lot, where multiple shooting victims were discovered. When House refused commands, officers confronted him, and three Lexington Police officers—Sergeant Ross Collins, Officer Kyle Blankenship, and Officer Simon Rankin—fired, stopping his actions. House was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two victims, Christina Combs (34) and Beverly Gumm (72), tragically died, while two others were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Trooper Remilien survived the initial shooting and was listed in stable condition. Jimmy and Jessica Alexander, their daughter Taylor Hall, and Airport Officer Adam Arnold were later honored at the Kentucky State Police Training Academy with the Meritorious Achievement Award—the highest honor the agency awards to civilians—for their lifesaving actions. Trooper Remilien continues to recover and was able to walk under his own power as of October 23, 2025.
