On June 14, 2024, Florida deputies responded after a concerned citizen rescued an unsupervised 2-year-old boy found wandering near a busy intersection. While searching for a caregiver, authorities found an open apartment door nearby and discovered the toddler’s 6-year-old sister sleeping inside, completely unaware of her brother's disappearance or their mother's whereabouts. The mother was contacted by phone, returned to the scene, and was arrested for Child Neglect for failing to provide reasonable care and supervision. The children were placed in the custody of a family friend, and child protective services were notified.
