[Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only] Vaughan, Ontario, Canada — On December 24, 2023, at 1:52 a.m., York Regional Police (YRP) 911 dispatchers received a call from a Vaughan resident reporting that someone had entered their home and was trying to rob and threaten them. During the call, the home invaders could be heard ordering the residents around the house and demanding money. A responding YRP officer spotted a suspicious black sedan with its lights off. A pursuit was initiated, and the officer relayed the vehicle description and license plate number to dispatch. The officer then headed for the scene of the home invasion to ensure the residents were safe. Upon arrival, the officer was notified that "Where is the money at?" was heard over the caller's phone, indicating the home invasion was still in progress. Off camera, the officer and another who was already on the scene can be heard forcing entry into the home. The officers interrupted the home invasion and repeatedly ordered the suspects to come out, raise their hands, and get on the ground. Three suspects were encountered in total. Not captured in the footage but reported by YRP, one of the officers discharged their firearm multiple times, but there were no injuries. One suspect was arrested at the scene, while another two fled on foot. A loaded gun was later recovered. In May 2024, YRP reported the arrest of four additional suspects in relation to the violent home invasion. A total of 37 charges were laid, and a sawed-off shotgun was seized. The suspects were reported to have been a part of a "larger criminal network." The black sedan seen fleeing the scene was later identified as having been stolen during an armed carjacking in Calgary, Alb., in Nov. 2023.
