On March 17, 2024, deputies with the Athens County Sheriff's Office were at the hospital when medical personnel advised one the deputies that a man was sitting on top of a sheriff's office vehicle. Deputies rushed outside to find a man sitting on top of the lightbar. They spent several minutes nicely trying to persuade the man to come down. When he called one of the deputies a crude name, it was all over. Four deputies dragged the man off the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs. Initially, they were only going to take him to the hospital for a psychological evaluation, but when they learned he had already been to the hospital and was released, it was decided to take the man to jail. He was charged with persistent disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. His next court date is April 23, 2024.
