On Friday, September 22, Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies were searching for Matthew Karsten, 43, after he allegedly battered a family member earlier in the day. Deputies finally spotted Karsten driving on Old Kings Road around 10:20 p.m. and swerving in and out of his lane. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Karsten, who appeared to have problems following instructions and stepping out of his vehicle. The 43-year-old seemed impaired and failed the subsequent field sobriety tests. “This guy made it too easy for us,” said Sheriff Staly. “Catching him drunk was easy, but he put others at risk on the road. Sober up and make a responsible choice. Don’t drink and drive, or go to the Green Roof Inn,” Karsten was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.), and Domestic Battery. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility (SPHIDF) and was released after posting $1,000 bond.
