Incident # 2022-0056886 Date & Time: 8/9/2022 at 12:27 PM Location: 1400 block of NW 129th Terrace Involved Officer: Officer Michael Poe – five years of service Wounded Suspect: Dennis, Derek Wayne (W/M, DOB: 12/31/1970) Narrative: On 8/9/22 at approximately 10:21 AM, a woman called 911 from Florida stating a man was on her front porch in Oklahoma City. She said the man was armed with a pistol and should not be at her home. She knew his name and gave police identifying information about him. When officers arrived, they found Derek Dennis standing outside of the residence. He was still armed with a pistol. Mr. Dennis refused officers’ commands to drop the pistol, forcing officers to back away and take a tactical position. Officers negotiated with Mr. Dennis for two hours, hoping to bring the standoff to a peaceful end. During that period, Mr. Dennis discharged his pistol toward a nearby pond. At 12:27 PM, Mr. Dennis, while still armed with the pistol, made a threatening move, and was shot by Officer Poe. Mr. Dennis was transported to an area hospital where he remains at this time. Upon release from the hospital, he will be booked into jail on a complaint of ADW on a police officer. Nobody else was injured. The calling party and Mr. Dennis were previously involved in a relationship, but the female had broken off the relationship. Officer Poe has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
