Shenandoah police are searching for three men involved in a failed attempt to steal approximately $5,000 in merchandise from Home Depot on Wednesday afternoon. According to Shenandoah Assistant Police Chief Barry Gresham, five suspects loaded two cars with items in the store’s rear parking lot around 3:45 p.m., but were quickly stopped by employees who called police. Two suspects fled on foot south along David Memorial Drive and into a nearby wooded area, while the two getaway vehicles tried to leave the lot. The vehicles collided with each other, and a black Dodge Charger hit a Shenandoah police cruiser, causing minor damage. The Charger continued onto nearby roads, hitting a curb and losing a front tire before stopping. Two men, later identified as 20-year-old Darryl Lee and 17-year-old Davonta Lee, ran back into the parking lot and were arrested after a brief foot chase. Darryl Lee faces additional charges for felony evading arrest. Meanwhile, a white Toyota getaway car continued north on the I-45 frontage road, made a U-turn at Texas 242, and briefly eluded officers before being found abandoned at a nearby construction site. The three remaining suspects – including the two who fled on foot and the Toyota driver – have not yet been located. All stolen merchandise has been returned to Home Depot. Montgomery County Sheriff’s K-9 units and DPS air support assisted Shenandoah officers in the search.
