On May 2, 2026, at approximately 2:33 p.m., Arkansas State Police Trooper Teddy Henderson attempted to conduct a traffic stop on State Highway 118 in Joiner after observing a red Dodge Charger traveling 80–81 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. According to the report, once emergency lights were activated, the driver — identified as Thalia Jones — accelerated and fled eastbound toward the Joiner city limits, prompting a pursuit. Trooper Henderson advised dispatch and continued the pursuit with emergency lights and sirens activated. Authorities stated Jones was given multiple opportunities to stop before a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) was attempted. During the maneuver, Jones allegedly swerved into the oncoming lane in an attempt to prevent the intervention. Troopers then completed the TVI, causing the Dodge Charger to leave the roadway, strike a sign and mailbox, overturn in a field, and come to rest upside down. After the crash, a three-year-old child exited the overturned vehicle and walked toward responding troopers. The child was identified as Jones’ biological son. Both Jones and the child were evaluated by EMS at the scene and later medically cleared. Jones was taken into custody and transported to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office jail following an additional medical evaluation at a local hospital.
