It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:06 PM on September 18, 2024, police officers responded to a crash at Automotive Avenues, a used car lot at 5011 NJ-33. Patrolman Kelly arrived first and saw a 2024 Kia Forte had hit a parked 2016 Dodge Challenger. Soon, Patrolman Idzahl, Patrolman Baker, and Sergeant Kuhl showed up to help. At that moment, the driver of the Kia had regained consciousness. Her name was Emily Allen. Employees at Automotive Avenues told officers that Emily drove into the parking lot before hitting a parked car belonging to the dealership. When the officers talked to her, they detected the smell of alcohol and saw signs of being intoxicated. Emily said she was coming from Matawan and going to work. Emergency medical teams from Wall EMS arrived to check her out further. Because of her condition, the officers decided she needed to go to the hospital for more tests. Before leaving, Sergeant Kuhl tried to do a field sobriety test called the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), but he couldn’t complete it properly. He also asked Emily to recite the alphabet from A to Z, but she was unable to do so. She was then placed in an ambulance and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Patrolman Kelly rode with her to the hospital. Once there, Emily agreed to give a blood sample. Later, she changed her mind and refused. Officer Kelly started the process of getting a warrant to take her blood by force. He called Assistant Prosecutor Noah Heck at 2:24 PM, then connected with Judge Richard Leahey in a conference call. The judge approved the warrant. Emily’s blood was drawn at 2:43 PM. After her blood was taken, Emily was taken to the Wall Township Police Department. Officers processed her there. Then, officers from Aberdeen Police arrived and took her into custody because she had a warrant with them. Patrolman Kelly issued her tickets for operating under the influence, reckless driving, and careless driving.
