On January 4, 2026, Rio Rancho Police Officers were dispatched to a welfare check. A friend of a 28-year-old woman was refusing to give her the keys to her car because she had been drinking and was heavily intoxicated. Officers were advised that the woman's mother had been called and was enroute to the location. When the mother arrived, she refused to take custody of her daughter and asked officers to arrest her. The mother advised officers that her daughter had a previous encounter with law enforcement while intoxicated, but officers drove her home that evening. As a result, Officer Fine initated a Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) investigation, which lead to the woman being arrested. She was transported to the Rio Rancho Police Station, where she provided two breath samples. The results were 0.29% and 0.30% BAC. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
