On August 15, 2024, around 10:52 PM, Lumberton Police responded to a call from Walmart loss prevention about a suspected shoplifter. Officers stopped a silver Ford Escape with two occupants: Driver: Sharlonda Sutton Passenger: Lakeesa P. Askew What began as a shoplifting investigation quickly escalated when: Lakeesa admitted she had active arrest warrants and didn’t want to go to jail.
