A Lucas County (OH) Sheriff's sergeant — sworn to enforce the very laws he's accused of breaking — was arrested for drunk driving in two states in about 16 months. In March 2024, Sylvania (OH) police pulled over Sgt. Kristin Matuszewski in a rental car after two complaints of reckless driving — one from a fellow officer — and arrested him for OVI. He was released to family and later signed a last-chance agreement with the sheriff's office. Then, on July 18, 2025, a passing driver found him slumped at the wheel, stopped in the middle of the road in Ottawa Lake, Michigan. Monroe County deputies responded; he refused sobriety tests, repeatedly asked not to be taken to jail because he'd lose his job, and reminded deputies "I am a peace officer." His blood later tested at more than four times the legal limit. The Lucas County Sheriff's Office placed him on leave the day of the Michigan arrest and accepted his resignation on August 1, 2025.
