On September 3, 2024, Roswell Police Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident. Officers discovered that the 26-year-old driver of a white SUV had crashed into the back of a parked pickup truck. Officers then discovered that the woman had been a passenger in the same SUV about an hour earlier when her friend had been arrested by the New Mexico State Police for drunk driving. The woman had allegedly been instructed not to drive the SUV because she had been drinking. However, she failed to listen to the direction of those officers. Because she had been involved in an accident, she was not given field sobriety testing. Based on the circumstances surrounding the accident, she was arrested for suspicion of drunk driving. She was transported to the emergency room for medical clearance before being taken to the Chaves County Detention Center. She refused to submit to chemical testing. Her criminal case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
